In a surprising turn of events, a heated family feud has erupted in the political landscape of Abia State, where the Bende Leadership Forum (BLF) has taken a firm stance, categorically distancing Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Benjamin Kalu, from any involvement with the opposition Labour Party (LP). The BLF’s decisive action comes amidst a storm of political controversy, with the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Hon. Nkeiruka Onyejiocha, at the center of the maelstrom.
During an urgent meeting held in Abuja, the BLF, led by High Chief Kingsley Enwere, unequivocally rejected any insinuation that Deputy Speaker Kalu engaged in anti-party activities within the Abia state chapter of the APC. The group squarely placed the blame on Minister Onyejiocha for orchestrating a campaign aimed at undermining Kalu’s standing.
The BLF emphasized that Deputy Speaker Kalu, who represents Bende Federal Constituency, has no political ties to the Labour Party. They stressed his unwavering dedication to his role as Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives. The BLF expressed deep concern that external forces may be trying to disrupt his official duties.
To provide further clarity, the BLF pointed out the complete absence of political overlap between the constituencies represented by Kalu and Onyejiocha within Abia State. While acknowledging Onyejiocha’s past tenure in the National Assembly, they highlighted that her ascent to such positions did not occur in the absence of Benjamin Kalu in the National Assembly. The BLF urged her to concentrate on her ministerial responsibilities and allow her brother to diligently fulfill his obligations as Deputy Speaker.
In response to the ongoing family feud, Minister Onyejeocha accused Benjamin Kalu of feeling insecure, particularly following her triumphant outcome at the tribunal. She suggested that it is the responsibility of the Bende elders to intervene and counsel him. The Minister emphasized that her focus remains on her ministerial duties and that she is not engaging in a personal feud with Kalu.
Moreover, this family feud has raised questions about political dynamics within the state. As Abia State grapples with various socio-economic challenges, it becomes increasingly vital for its political leaders to work together harmoniously. In the end, the people of Abia State are the ones who will be most affected by the outcome of this feud, and they deserve effective and cooperative leadership.
Such dynamics often reflect the broader challenges of politics in Nigeria, where personal ambitions can sometimes overshadow the collective interest. It remains to be seen how the situation will evolve, but one can only hope that a spirit of reconciliation and unity will prevail, allowing the political leaders of Abia State to focus on the pressing issues that require their attention.
