Nigerians Angry and Suffering Under Tinubu’s Government, Says K1

Fuji maestro criticizes president’s economic policies and security challenges in a viral video

by Victor Adetimilehin

Nigeria’s popular fuji musician, Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, also known as K1 De Ultimate, has slammed President Bola Tinubu for his handling of the country’s economic and security crises.

In a video that surfaced online on Thursday, K1 performed on stage and sang in Yoruba language, urging Tinubu to find solutions to the plight of the masses.

“The citizens are crying and wailing. We’re suffering amid a lack of adequate power supply. How did things get to this point? I implore you to fix these problems,” K1 sang in the video.

He also lamented the high exchange rate of the naira to the dollar, the rising cost of living, and the rampant cases of kidnapping and banditry across the country.

“We know you to be a philanthropist, but we Nigerians are angry. The people of Nigeria are angry. The traders in this country are not happy. Look at what the dollar has become (a reference to the exchange rate),” K1 added.

He appealed to Nigerians to persevere and exercise more patience with Tinubu, assuring them that his government would resolve all the challenges facing the country.

He also asked those who are profiting from the suffering of the masses to bury their heads in shame.

K1 is known to be a staunch supporter of Tinubu, who is a former governor of Lagos state and the leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) party.

He has in the past sung Tinubu’s praises in some of his records and was on his campaign trail in the build-up to the 2023 presidential election.

Tinubu, who assumed office on May 29, 2023, after defeating his main rival, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has faced criticism for his economic policies, which include the removal of fuel subsidies and the floating of the naira.

Many Nigerians have blamed these policies for the high inflation, unemployment, and poverty rates in the country, as well as the depreciation of the naira against major currencies.

Tinubu has also been accused of failing to address the security challenges posed by armed groups, such as Boko Haram, Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), and Fulani herdsmen, who have killed thousands of people and displaced millions more in the past year.

The president has repeatedly vowed to restore peace and stability in the country and has recently appointed new service chiefs and security advisers to help him achieve this goal.

However, many Nigerians remain skeptical and disillusioned with his leadership, and some have called for his resignation or impeachment.

K1’s video has sparked mixed reactions on social media, with some praising him for speaking the truth, and others accusing him of being hypocritical and opportunistic.

Some have also questioned his credibility and motive, as he was once a vocal supporter of Tinubu and his policies. K1 has not responded to the comments or issued any statement on his video as of the time of writing this report.
